House Porn

So we’re back to this.

Three nights in a row: starting a blog with absolutely no idea of where it will go. No topic ideas. No plan. Not enough sleep.

One thing that has vexed me lately is that the back-and-forth with architectural plans has seen me recently develop an addiction to House Porn (yes, that is a thing). As my imagination runs wild, I’ve started collecting masses of pictures of boot rooms and Shaker-style kitchens. Country House Porn. Google wants to use my location and previous search algorithms to suggest English Country House Porn, but I’m hoping for a more American-style, little, frontier-sy, log-cabin kind of feel. However, most American House Porn seems to rely on having an enormous house to begin with, so I started looking for the small, self-sustaining homestead websites.

And that’s where the weirdness begins.

See, New Zealand (and British) sites about sustainable living share helpful tips on composting and great seasonal recipes. American sustainable living sites also have great seasonal recipes, and lots of tips on canning, and helpful guides on shooting strangers, and info on how to stop the government from taking away your guns

Ooohhhh… I think we have a very different notion of why sustainable living is desirable and important. Mine involves a great deal less fear.

How awful it must be to live your life motivated by fear rather than joy…
